Homemade Protein Bars

I often get asked by clients about eating protein bars.  While this sounds like an ideal convenience food and promises all the healthy benefits that protein provides your body, be careful.  Unfortunately many protein bars and such substitutes on the market today are full of preservatives, junk and even sugar.  They are really just short of a fancy chocolate bar.  Rather than playing the guessing game of which one (very few) are good for you out there, and wasting $3-5/bar, why not just make your own?!  This is a very simple recipe and very yummy.  Have fun with it get creative and try your own variations.

Clean eating basics: top 10 foods for optimal weight, exercise performance & recovery

Keep your body stong &
lean with healthy clean food
Top foods for optimal weight, exercise performance & recovery.  Make these your staple healthy grocery list and eliminate the guess work!
1.       Lean Protein: turkey, chicken breast, fish
2.       Healthy nuts:  almonds, walnuts & pecans
3.       Healthy fats: coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil, almond or walnut oil, flax oil, and fish oil (I buy fish oil in capsules much easier to take than in liquid form)
4.       Whole grains (not whole wheat!): oatmeal, buckwheat, quinoa, or whole rye (this is an excellent thermogenic food – speeds up your metabolism) Ezekiel bread products are also great!
5.       Healthy starch foods: yams, sweet potatoes & brown rice are always a good choice
6.       Green veggies:  spinach, broccoli, green peppers, kale, swiss chard, cucumbers, asparagus etc.
7.       Natural protein powder : look for those that do not have artificial color, sweeteners or flavors (the best kinds are from New Zealand)
